UAE’s NHRI and OHCHR Collaborate to Enhance Human Rights Expertise

Abu Dhabi: The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) recently hosted a delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting focused on discussions about strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise between the two organizations.

According to Emirates News Agency, the OHCHR delegation was led by Mazen Shaqoura, Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, and included treaty bodies expert Leen Eid and Human Rights Assistant Officer Jad Haj Shahada. The NHRI representatives included Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General of the Institution, and Fajr Al Haidan, Head of the Agreements and Reports Section.

Both parties deliberated on ideas to develop joint training and cooperation programmes. The aim is to enhance human rights capabilities and deepen specialized knowledge of international human rights mechanisms. During the meeting, the NHRI reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the OHCHR. The focus is particularly on knowledge exchange that supports the advancement of the human rights system by adopting leading international practices and experiences in the field.
